About Us
Buxton Swimming Club is set in the heart of the Peak District. The club caters for swimmers from the town of Buxton and surrounding villages.
The club caters for complete beginners from the age of 4 years, up to Regional and National swimmers.
We are proud to be the home club of Abbie Wood, international GB swimmer who has represented Team GB since the European Games in Baku in 2015 and at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest. She made her Team England debut at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Australia.
Lessons are held for learners on Tuesday evenings at 6.35pm and Sunday afternoons at 3.30pm and are 30 minutes in length. We follow the National Plan for Teaching Swimming, where lessons are structured around the national plan and based on fun.
Swimmers who have completed stages 1-4 move to the Abbie Wood Swim Academy, where they continue through the 3 stages to hone their swimming strokes and technique.
For anyone wishing to join any of our squads, our coaching team will be pleased to assess you and place you in the correct squad for your ability.
Training for our squads takes place on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday evenings.
For those swimmers who develop their swimming ability and reach regional and National level they then can progress to the Derbyshire elite squad “Derventio Excel” for which we are a feeder club
All of our Teachers, helpers and Committee members are volunteers and we are proud to have such a reliable and willing team.
Please note Buxton Swimming Club runs independently from Parkwood Leisure that operate Buxton Pool. We hire the pool outright in order to run our own sessions.
