Abbie Wood bags 4 in Baku & ITV Sports interview
GB & Buxton swimmer Abbie Wood returned back to the UK after a successful European Games meet in Baku. Abbie return with 4 medals and a new European games record.
The first event of Abbie’s success came in the 400IM finishing the heats with a time of 4:45.61 landing her a new games record. With Abbie being the favourite going into the final, she impressed once again by breaking her Games record with a new time of 4:41.91.
The second medal Abbie won was being part of the 4×100 medley finishing in 3rd position with a time of 4:01.10. Abbie swam the fly leg of the medley.
The third medal of the meet where Abbie teamed up with the male swimmers in a 4x100m mixed medley relay. Team GB won silver in a time of 3:52.03, +2.50 seconds off with Russia who took the gold and a new Games record.
Abbie’s fourth and final medal of the Games was won in the 200IM. Abbie came 4th in the heats with a time of 2:17.28. Heading into the semi-finals Abbie stepped up her game finishing 3rd with an impressive time of 2:15.34. Abbie went on to the final and finished with a faster time of 2:14.49 and finished 3rd.
After returning for Baku Abbie got invited to ITV where she had a interview with 2 other fellow GB swimmers from the North West area. After months of training Abbie can take a short break and get back to training ready for the Nationals.
